Shortly before the end of the transfer window, the German champion club Bayern Munich have apparently entered the race to sign international footballer Armel Bella-Kotchap, reported dpa.
German newspaper Bild and broadcaster Sport1 reported overnight that the Bavarians were negotiating with English club Southampton.
According to Sky Sport, however, the relegated side from the English Premier League was already in broad agreement with Borussia Dortmund about a transfer for the 21-year-old defender, who is keen to move to the Bundesliga.
According to these reports, Bella-Kotchap is to move to the German runners-up on loan with a subsequent option to buy. However, the clubs are still working on the details.
The former Bochum man has a contract at Southampton until the summer of 2026, but is likely to pursue other sporting goals following relegation from the Premier League.
Bella-Kotchap, who was also reportedly in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt, has so far made two international appearances for national coach Hansi Flick's DFB team. The transfer window in Germany closes on Friday at 6 pm (1600 GMT).
