3 dead, 4 missing in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi landslide

At least three people have been found dead in a recent landslide in Parigi Moutong Regency, in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province, a local official told local media on Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

Meanwhile, four other victims remain missing after the disaster, which took place in Tirtanagaya Village in the regency on Saturday last week, according to the local search and rescue agency. The agency has decided to extend its search operation by four more days due to ongoing challenges.

"It took us four hours to reach the location using heavy equipment. The terrain is rocky and difficult to access," said Muhammad Rizal, head of the local search and rescue agency.

The landslide reportedly occurred after heavy rain poured into the region on Saturday, as seven villagers were gathering wood in the forest near the village.

Indonesia is currently transitioning into the dry season, with some areas still experiencing rainfall.

While the dry season is expected to begin gradually in June, peaking between July and August, the transition period continues to bring rain and the potential for thunderstorms.
