Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal is close to joining Boca Juniors on a free transfer, according to widespread media reports in Argentina, reported Xinhua.
The 36-year-old, who is contracted to Brazil's Athletico Paranaense until December 31, has reportedly agreed to a 12-month deal with the Buenos Aires club.
Vidal has not played since September after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
The two-time Copa America winner with Chile sparked a social media frenzy among Boca fans on Thursday when he posted images wearing the Argentine club's colors.
Boca Juniors finished seventh in their 14-team group in the latest edition of the Argentine Primera Division and they will be absent from the 2024 Copa Libertadores, having failed to qualify for South America's premier club competition for the first time since 2017.
