Iran and Saudi Arabia on Friday highlighted the necessity to take practical and immediate actions to halt Israel's ongoing military offensive against Palestinians, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, reported Xinhua.
In a phone call, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, discussed the latest developments in the West Asia region and the broader international dynamics.
They underscored the importance of leveraging regional and international mechanisms to end the hostility in Gaza, including through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and joint Islamic-Arab mechanisms.
The Saudi foreign minister voiced his country's readiness to work towards the achievement of those objectives.
Araghchi, for his part, pointed to the "catastrophic" circumstances in Gaza caused by intensified Israeli attacks and the blockade on essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine. He called for making use of all capacities, including the OIC and other international mechanisms, to lift the siege of the coastal enclave, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians, and end the fighting.
He also condemned the Israeli Knesset's recent approval of a motion calling for the imposition of so-called "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank.
Araghchi said the action, concurrent with the continuation of "flagrant human rights violations" in the West Bank, disclosed Israel's intention to "completely eliminate Palestine as an independent territory, nation and identity."
