A man has been shot dead by police after allegedly threatening officers with a machete at a shopping center in northwest Sydney, reported Xinhua.
A police statement said that emergency services were called to reports of a brawl involving two groups of people in the carpark of a shopping center in Mount Druitt, 38 km northwest of central Sydney, at around 3:15 p.m. local time on Saturday.
Officers attending the scene were allegedly threatened by a man armed with a machete and fired several gunshots at him.
First aid was immediately rendered by police and ambulance paramedics but the man, believed to be aged in his 20s, died at the scene shortly after 4 p.m. local time.
A crime scene has been established and detectives from the homicide squad have commenced an investigation into the incident.
