Poland captain Robert Lewandowski announced on Monday that he won't play the friendly game against Moldova and the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Finland as he has to rest after an intense season, reported Xinhua.
The striker announced on his social media that he will miss upcoming matches of Poland national team. On June 6 the team coached by Michal Probierz will host Moldova in a friendly game, while four days later it will play against Finland in the FIFA World Cup qualifier.
"Considering the circumstances and the intensity of the club season, we decided with the coach that this time I won't take part in the June matches of the Poland national team. Playing for the team has always been a dream come true for me, but sometimes your body gives you a signal that you need to take a break for a while. We still have many goals to achieve," Lewandowski said.
Poland made a perfect start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifications by beating Lithuania and Malta at home ground. It sits on top of Group H above Finland, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Malta.
