Finland scored a magnificent victory beating Canada by 2 goals to 1 on tiebreaker in the Ice Hockey World Championship in Avicii Arena, Stockholm, Sweden late Monday night.
Patrik Puistola and Eeli Tolvanen scored in the shootout for the Lions while Kent Johnson was the lone scorer for Canadia.
The match was 1-1 draw in the regular three periods and goalless draw in the extra time resulting the tiebreaker to settle the result where Finnish goalkeeper Juuse Saros established his supremacy over Marc-Andre Fleury of Canada.
Both the team created several opportunities for goal during the match, but Ryan O'reilly of Canada scored the only goal and took 1-0 lead at the 38th minute, although it was a power play for Finland.
The Finns tried to level the score and finally Patrik Puistola scored at the 48th minute to ensure the draw at the regular time.
It was Finland´s fifth victory in the first round of the tournament.
Earlier, they beat Austria, France, Slovenia and Latvia and lost to Sweden in the previous five matches.
Monday´s match was the first defeat for Canada after five consecutive victories in the tournament.
Finland will play with Slovakia on Tuesday while Canada will faces hosts Sweden in their last group matches respectively.
